Indiana IFTA State Tax: An Overview

A fuel tax account, IFTA license and IFTA decals are required if you operate interstate vehicles.

There are two types of vehicle fuel tax accounts:

  • International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA), for interstate carriers who travel in Indiana plus at least one other state outside of Indiana, including Canada, and
  • Indiana Motor Carrier Fuel Tax (MCFT), for intrastate carriers who operate only within Indiana (Indiana travel only).
